If people follow us they lose themselves, just as we lose ourselves if we blindly copy others. Individually we have to find trust in ourselves. Confidence is having trust in ourselves to respond with integrity in the moment. True CONFIDENCE is the mark of integrated Sun energy. Individually we grow the way we grow in response to our own ever changing moment.
We experience the full benefit of joy from the Sun when we find a way to integrate our spontaneous nature with the moment. The moment can bring anything; the moment cannot be prepared for. Only confidence and self-belief can face the moment; these are the hallmarks of Sun-sign energy. The Sun represents confidence, self-belief, spontaneity and integrity. When the time comes we know we can stand up, be ourselves, and respond fully. That is confidence.
The inner strength and childishness of the Sun nature is ever-flowering as new character expressions and new ways of being are integrated. Everything offers the Sun opportunity to grow. Age, death, a walk in the park, huge projects – everything. The Sun is like the eternal child forever discovering a new way of being, expressing untried and untested behaviours in response to the ever-changing moment.
But if our Sun is afflicted with a sense of lacking or tremulousness it might be difficult to experience the joy. At least through watching transits (and noting the effects in Cosmic Journal) you can see what you are pushing away, then over time you will learn to trust yourself.
The astrological Sun is as elusive as straightforward 100% success everyday is elusive. It isn’t easy to keep the goal and the motivation running together. We Sun - signs (everyone) make plans and goals that would be so great if they manifested but the idea of them seems to shrivel away; to rise again like a bright idea another week; only to shrivel again before you can really make as much as a difference as you want. Your great idea, vision of success or goal is a Phoenix.
Have you promised yourself to eat a certain amount of calories, no snacking and exercise? Then you find you can only maintain that for part of the day then the urge to snack becomes really strong. Maybe you keep your regime for 3 days, a week, maybe even a month; but then Bam! Snacking and ‘dangerous’ foods kicks in.
Perhaps you have promised yourself you will write that book and write a page a day. Maybe you write a few pages – Bam! The interest dries up.
Why, you wonder, do you prefer to snack, eat junk, watch telly, scroll Facebook, read a book all day or sit in the sun when you know there are other important (for your soul) and interesting things to be done?
The reason is because of The Glue. The Glue is a mind state that happens between focused states. It is why we cannot keep focused all day and seem to switch off, relax and maybe even do the opposite of our focused efforts.
Creative people are very well aware of the time they need to piddle about. It might seem like the completion of a creative work only takes 3 hours but that doesn’t include the 3 hours of pottering that preceded it.
Pottering, doing ‘mindless’ things, like Facebook, watching a film or telly – in fact anything that is easy and mindless for you – is Glue Time. And Glue Time, as its name implies, is exactly what we need in order to hold the rest of our life together.
A grand idea is like a Phoenix is created from all the corners of your world, from everything that holds meaning to you. All the things that hold meaning to you, such as: family, friends, all sorts of relationships, work, self-image and goals are in a giant cauldron of your mind. There are no real boundaries; they swirl about together, rising in bubbles and popping when their time to be done comes. Now the Phoenix, by its nature, will shrivel and rise repeatedly. However, what you need is to look after the ashes - so they don’t disperse, so the embers don’t get cold. You need The Glue. The Sun energy is the Glue AND the Phoenix. The Sun energy is awareness.
So instead of letting Glue Time undo all our good actions we need to use Glue Time to support our goals. For instance, instead of eating a sweetshop full of snacks whilst watching something on a screen – commit yourself to watching something that you really want to watch for as long as you feel like. Allow yourself to ‘waste’ time as if your soul was drinking the luxury of having no goal and no duties.
Glue Time is quite difficult to allow ourselves to enjoy; so we don’t fully commit to it because we are secretly telling ourselves, ‘I will be ready to start work on this or that commitment any minute.’ Of course, with discipline we do that. And discipline plays a big part in not wallowing in too much Glue. Because, as you can imagine, too much Glue Time in your life makes you stuck and you don’t get anything done.
Whilst in the process of having no goals or duties or a nagging sense that we should do something, The Glue is binding in new forms the elements of our life in its gloop. So when you are ready to work with the Phoenix, the ideas aren’t so heavy they slip off the spoon quickly. The right amount of Glue holds it all together like pectin in raspberry jam.
Then the ideas re-emerge. We are charged up with identification and motivation. The renewed ego is the Phoenix; a mythical creature which periodically burns up, dies and then renews itself from its own ashes. Our ego cannot live because it sees it does not exist. However, ego is a product of mind and life, so when a spark of anything excites the Mind, pure as it has now become, a Phoenix spontaneously creates itself. The Phoenix is the ego reborn and it will come to die many times. The re-born ego is the Phoenix; the ego/Phoenix knows it does not exist; it is effectively a magical beast. The Sun in the Tarot is the renewed ego. The renewed ego is the Phoenix born from the great fire of invisible creation. Your renewed ego will die often in your new enlightened life just as it used to die through love, sex, dance, art and meditations before, only now the renewed ego is not always present. Yet when the Phoenix is present it is magnificent, proud, great and sometimes remorseful. This is your easy to see Sun nature in astrology.
Our Sun nature holds all our identities together through awareness and identification. Part of our Sun nature is to hang upside down from a world tree, and it is to burst into flames and ashes where it lives undetected in The Glue as well as the ta-dah we express because we are pleased with ourselves. When we identify with our astrological Sun we identify with everything we can possibly be; so we are great, we sense our magnificence and we seem egotistical; this is why the Sun in the horoscope is so important. That is why you shouldn’t limit yourself to half sucked astrology sweets; bursts of quick sweetness and a load of useless calories for your magnificent mind.
